Newton Native Wins Fourth Head of the Charles Title

Fresh off her run in this summer's 2012 London Olympics, Newton native Gevvie Stone has earned her fourth Head of the Charles title. 

Stone, 27, finished first in the women's championship singles event during the 48th annual Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 20. She beat out 19 other rowers for a time of 16:11. 

This is the fourth time Stone has won the title in the women's championship singles; she also finished first in 2011, 2010 and 2008. 

During her Olympic run this summer, Stone finished seventh in the women's single sculls event. 

Stone also took second place in the Head of the Charles women's championship eights with her teammates from the Cambridge Boat Club. 

For Stone, rowing runs in the family. Her parents, Gregg and Lisa Stone, were elite rowers on the U.S. National Team and Olympic team. Her father is listed as one of her coaches on her U.S. Rowing Team profile.
