Newton North Teams Dominate Tournament Play [Photos]

The Newton North boys volleyball, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse teams all had victories Wednesday.

Wednesday was a big day for the sports teams.

Kicking off the MIAA tournament play yesterday, the boys lacrosse team defeated Haverhill 9-6 in an East Div. 1 preliminary round match at Newton North.

The boys, who are ranked #12 in the division (now 14-4), will move on to the first round of the tournament to face #5 Billerica on Sat., June 6 at 6 p.m. in Billerica.

Just a few hours later, the #7 Newton North girls lacrosse team took the field at Dickinson Stadium to face #10 Hingham in a South Div. 1 first round match.

Although Hingham made a hard push at the start of the second half -- scoring four goals in less than five minutes -- the Tigers ended up dominating the later parts of each half and defeated Hingham 18-16.

The Newton North girls (now 13-5-1) will go on to face second-ranked Notre Dame academy in a quarterfinal game on Friday at 4 p.m. The game will take place at Notre Dame.

Finally, the Newton North boys volleyball team wrapped up the evening with a quarterfinal game in the Reggie Gym at Newton North. The second-ranked Tigers faced #7 Brockton.

Looking to defend their division title, the Tigers defeated Brockton 3-0, advancing to the South Div. 1 semifinals. Newton (now 17-1) will face #3 Needham in the semifinal match, which will take place Fri., June 1 at 7 p.m. (location to be decided).
