Newton North's Athletic Teams are Enjoying a Successful Fall

The Tigers volleyball, girls' soccer and cross country teams have fared well in the post-season.

Newton North teams have enjoyed success in the fall high school championships, with the volleyball, soccer and cross country teams still alive in the race for the title.

The fourth-seeded Tigers volleyball players rolled over Boston Latin on Monday, 3-0 at home, and then traveled to take on the section's top seed - Brookline. Newton North had to go five games, but prevailed 3-2 over Brookline. The Tigers (18-3) booked a date in the Div. 1 Central/East Section final on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Hudson High School against second-seeded North Quincy (19-3).

Girls' Soccer

The Tigers girls' soccer team routed Masconomet 5-0 on Tuesday night at Manning Field in Lynn. Number 2 seed Newton North (16-0-2) will return to Lynn on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. to play fifth-seed Acton-Boxborough (15-2-3) in the Div. 1 North Section final. 

Cross Country

Newton North runners finished first and second at the MSTCA Cross-Country Invitational last weekend in Wrentham. Gabe Montague finished with a time of 15:30, according to the Boston Globe report, and teammate Mike Schlichting finished only seven second behind in the Div. 1 junior-senior boys’ race. Jared Freedman finished 10th in the race, and the Tigers won the team competition in the 11th and 12th grade race.

The Newton North girls finished fourth in the junior-senior Div. 1 race, with Maeve Greeley taking seventh and Evie Heffernan finishing 11th. 

The MIAA Eastern State Championships will be held on Saturday in Wrentham.
