Newton Sports Roundup: Newton North Football Falls, South Wins in Two Tourneys

See how Newton South and Newton North fared in state tournament play.

Newton North’s football tournament came to a quick end, falling at powerful Bridgewater-Raynham 41-7 on Friday night.

The Tigers held B-R (rated 10th in the Boston Globe High School Rankings) to 7 points in the first quarter, but gave up 27 in the second. Newton North finally got on the board in the fourth quarter when Jack Boucher scored on a 1-yard run.

While their tournament is over, the Tigers play on. Newton North travels to face New Bedford this week.

Girls Volleyball

Newton South defeated Latin Academy 3-0 on Saturday. Nika Varpahosky had four aces, senior outside hitter Izzy Shisko had five kills, and junior Paneed Jalili provided four kills for the Lions, according to the Boston Globe report. Next they travel to King Phillip Monday at 7 p.m.

Newton North hosts Boston Latin on Monday night at 7 p.m.

 

Girls Soccer

Newton North shutout Andover 3-0 on Sunday. The Tigers will take on Masconomet on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Lynn’s Manning Field.

Newton South beat host Silver Lake 2-0 on Sunday. The Lions now travel to face second seed Bishop Feehan on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
