Newton's Little Big Leaguers Win the Big One

Newton SouthEast came back after trailing early and two weather delays to win the State Little League title.

Newton’s plucky ballplayers faced rain, lightning and a four-run hole, but Newton SouthEast came up with three big runs in the sixth inning to win the State Little League title.

The win over Hanover in the state final came after two rain/lightning delays at the Guy Cammarata Complex in West Roxbury Monday night.

Already down 1-0 in the second inning, the game was delayed half an hour as a lighting cell blew nearby. When they returned to action, Hanover struck like a lightning bolt, when Steve Simon hit a three-run home run.

Late in the game, the weather showed up again, delaying the game for the second time.

This time, it was Newton’s turn come out of the gates strong after the weather delay.

In the bottom of the sixth SouthEast tied it at four and had the bases loaded. They booked their trip to Bristol for the New England Regional tournament with a 5-4 win.
