Two local boxers have recently had some time to shine in the spotlight, taking home Golden Glove titles and fighting under the lights at TD Garden.
Nonantum Boxing Club's Joey Meuse recently had a chance to fight at TD Garden's A Night at the Fights on Saturday, Jan. 26. According to a press release issued by Nonantum Boxing Club, 19-year-old Meuse faced off against Ryan White of Norwood and won a unanimous decision in what was a crowd favorite bout.
The evening, which also featured a fight with professional boxer Danny O’Connor of Framingham, included five amateur bouts.
Meuse, a Millis resident, has been training at the Nonantum Boxing Club since he was 13-years old, the press release said. He is a Silver Mittens and Golden Glove Champion.
In addition to Meuse's fight at the Garden, Nonantum Boxing Club's Rafael Rivera recently "outworked and outpunched" his opponent to win the Lowell Golden Gloves in the 165 pound novice division, according to a press release issued last week by the boxing club.
Rivera, who now has a 7-2 record, will head to the New England Championships at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Feb. 12.
According to the press release, Rivera is a West Roxbury resident who runs a local dog sitting company. He also volunteers in the community for the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club in Newton.
