Cool Down this Summer in Newton

Now that summer's here, here are some ideas for escaping the heat.

Temperatures in Newton this week are hovering around the 80s, which means that summer is finally here. After a long winter this news is very welcome, but pretty soon everyone will be looking for ways to escape the heat. Here are a few ideas:

1. Swimming: The Gath Memorial Pool and Crystal Lake are both good options for a place to take a dip and cool off.

2. Cool treats: Ice cream is necessary in the summer, and Newton offers a lot of places to choose from. Cabot’s, JP Licks, FREEZE at Waban Square are just a few ice cream options. For a healthier treat, try frozen yogurt at Sweet Tart or Yogurtland.

3. Watch a movie: Movie theaters are known for being dark and air-conditioned, making them a perfect place to get out of the sun. There is nearby Showcase Super Lux The Street in Chestnut Hill, and right in Newton West Newton Cinema offers foreign and independent films.

4. Visit a museum: The Discovery Museums just announced their summer hours. Beginning on Monday, the Children’s Discovery Museum will be open from 9am-4:30pm and the Science Discovery Museum will be open 10am-4:30pm, both for 7 days a week.
