As I have been going around town collecting signatures to run for Mayor, I have gotten some people who have recognized my name.  They've recognized my name due to past elections.  I get asked, "What makes you think you can win this year, when you couldn't win in the past?"
Fair question.  The answer is simple, unlike previous elections I have a past to run on.  I believe that the major qualification for the job of Mayor is  good judgement.  I believe I have shown that.  In the past, I have fought for the firefighters, while the past administration was mistreating them with an unjust sick-leave policy.  The firefighters took the city to arbitration and won.  While I am not a firefighter, it made me feel good that someone with nothing to gain (the arbitrator) sided with the firefighters.
I also ran for Mayor 8 years ago on the premise that the city was being poorly managed.   Again, I felt vindicated when the financial professionals of the CAG (again, people who had nothing to gain) came out and said that the city was being poorly managed.
During the Mayor's race one of my key issues was zero based budgeting, which currently saved the city $5 million per years for the last 3 years.
While I have been right, I've also been wrong.  I was opposed to the new turf at NSHS.  I felt the new turf could cause injuries to the athletes, I also felt the surface would occasionally be too hot to play on.  I was clearly wrong.
I'm not perfect, I'll be the first to admit that.  I am willing to  compare my past track record with any of my opponents'.  Please keep your mind open and ask questions.  Allow the city to have the best candidate for Mayor, not the most popular or most likeable, the city deserves it.
