With only three and a half weeks left until Newton’s preliminaries, I look at my competitors and wonder, what are their positions?   How do they intend to improve our community? Whether someone finds greatness or fault with my stances, I have (and will continue) to layout my ideas about what would make our community stronger and better for everyone.   As of the writing of this letter (Aug. 23), I am the only mayoral candidate that has clearly stated ideas to better our city. On my website, electsheffmayor.com, my “Issues” section runs the gamut from Finances, Education, Transportation, Housing, and many other areas where we can and should improve Newton’s quality of life. These are ideas that I’ve noticed over the years. These are ideas from my neighbors, friends and fellow Newton citizens. By hitting the streets and talking to so many good people that want to see a better Newton, my platform has grown, and with it, my resolve to make these changes a reality.   I take particular pride in my miscellaneous section, where I approach with practicality and creativity some of the more curious and cumbersome aspects of daily Newton living. From better communication about roadwork to a more functional city hall; from fundraising to backlogged repairs; from increasing citizen involvement in Newton’s local government to municipal shelters; I have listened to, and put forth ideas to strengthen our city.   In a day and age where we crave governmental transparency, I have laid out my plans for our city, and will continue to do so.
