JCC in Newton to Host Bone Marrow Drive

Cancer is a random killer. It can strike any one of us at any time. For many patients suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, other cancers and genetic diseases, there is hope of a cure through a bone marrow transplant. That is, of course, if a donor can be found. The Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center (333 Nahanton Street) in Newton will host a donor recruitment drive to register potential bone marrow donors on Tuesday, February 14 (7:30-9:30am) and Thursday, February 16 (4-6pm) on behalf of the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation. The drive will benefit patients suffering from various blood cancers and diseases who are in need of a bone marrow transplant. There is an urgent need for donors of every racial and ethnic background. All members of the community are encouraged to participate. If you are between the ages of 18 and 60 and in general good health, you are eligible to be screened and join the worldwide registry for patients in need. A fast, simple and painless swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match.
