Local Company Steps in so Boys & Girls Club Won't be Left in the Cold

America's Compounding Center made a donation to fix the heating system at the Newton Boys & Girls Club.

When the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club faced a crisis of going into winter without a heating system, a local company came to the rescue.

The club installed a new boiler system two years ago for nearly $50,000, but found that a $5,000 circulator pump had failed. Without a fix, the club faced the possibility of having no heat for the second time in two years.

Luckily for the club, Arthur and Claire Margolis - owners of America’s Compounding Center in Newton - were looking for a way to
celebrate their company’s 10th anniversary. Instead of throwing a party, the couple decided they wanted to help the Boys & Girls Club when they heard about their predicament.

“Donating the heat pump was one of those decisions that you never think twice about,” said Arthur Margolis. “I have a long history with the Boys & Girls Club of Newton, and some of my fondest memories as a child are from the time I spent there at summer camp. The Club really opened up new opportunities and introduced me to great role models. So my wife, Claire, and I are honored to be able to help the Club in its time of need.”

Arthur is a third-generation compounding pharmacist and a native and resident of Newton. America’s Compounding Center is a family-owned compounding pharmacy that works with physicians to provide customized medications for patients.

The Margolises went beyond just replacing the circulation pump, and made a donation of $10,000 and installed a Magna 3 Dual Head High Efficiency Circulator Pump. With this technology the Club will save thousands of dollars in annual electricity costs and will pay for itself over just five years.

Club Director David Sellers said the donation will make a huge difference at the club.

“It is rare for a small non-profit like ours to have access to the latest and greatest technology," Sellers said. "With Arthur and Claire’s generous assistance our Club was able to improve our infrastructure dramatically without causing a strain on our operating budget. This frees up those funds to support our mission of inspiring and enabling young people to reach their full potential.”
