Weekend Agenda: Yoga, Historic Home, Dog Training, Crystal Lake Closes

Take a look at some of what's coming to Newton this weekend.

Here are some ideas:

Yoga on the Green

Jess Ray will lead participants in this free yoga class on the green at The Street in Chestnut Hill. The course is offered by Lululemon and will take place Sunday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m.

Swimming Hours Change

This weekend marks the beginning of the post-season at Gath Memorial Pool. From not until Labor Day, the pool's hours will be weekdays from 12:15 p.m. -dusk for adult swim and 1 p.m.-dusk for children swim. Weekend hours remain unchanged through Sunday, Sept. 1. Then, the pool will close at 5 p.m. on Labor Day).

And this is the final weekend for Crystal Lake this season. The beach will close at dusk on Sunday, Aug. 18.

Summer in the Highlands Concert and Movie

Head to the Hyde Playground Friday at 6 p.m. for this week's concert and movie. The band, Home Grown String Band, will provide bluegrass tunes and the movie, "The Lorax" will be shown at dusk.

Electronics Recycling

It's not exactly entertaining, but you may want to know about it. Friday and Saturday are electronics recycling drop-off days at the Rumford Avenue Recycling Depot. Stop by from 8 a.m. to noon either day. Televisions and computer monitors will be recycled for a $12 fee, but all other electronics are free.

Free Historic Home Tour

Stop by the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds Saturday from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. for a free "sneak peek" at the renovations.

Dog Training Class

Another session of the city's free dog training class will be offered Sunday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at Hunnewell Park Off-Leash Area. Register online for this class (or the next one on Aug. 24). The class is free and open to all Newton residents with dogs registered in the city.
