The Avenue on Comm. Ave a block away from the intersection of Comm and Harvard in Allston.  A basic "Dive Bar".  But with a relatively nice sunny area for eating  (at these prices, it is not dining) in the front.  There are also tables in the bar area and in the back of the place.  But since I like to read my paper when I eat, it is the front for me.  By the way, I recently learned that the place is going to removate to make it more of an inviting spot for all and less of a dive bar/college student hangout.  What got me there a few months ago was a sign on the roof stating that Mondays were Hamburger days.  $1.00 for burgers all day.  I must at this point let you know that as of July 1, the price is $2.  Still far less than their regular price and here is why you should go.  They start of with a quarter pound burger that seems to be a nice 80/20 mix.  Lean enough so it is not greasy, and just the right amount of fat to make it flavorful and juicy.  I always get the Number 1.   Burger, real lettuce (not the shreds), a nice slice of tomato.  On the top bun, they butter and toast it.  The bottom bun also toasted has a terrific mayo and roasted yellow pepper spread.  The burger itself it cooked the way you ask for it.  In my case medium rare, flavorful, juicy and if I say so myself, Wicked Tasty.  The burger price is when you buy a drink.  I get a diet coke, so one does not have to get booze.  Along with a fantastic order of perfectly fried, fries (I get a bottle of Malt Vinegar for the fries), the bill comes to just over $5.  As always, with a discount, I tip on full value. As long as the service was good.  Just a block away is a national burger chain.  Personally I can't see the chain doing any business on Mondays.  The Avenue, just a stroll away!
