Newton's Public Buildings Department is in charge of maintaining all of the city-owned buildings in town. Whether it is construction, renovation or repair, this department takes care of 85 public facilities, which includes the 21 public schools, public works departments and City Hall. This department also strives to make sure the designs and updates to buildings are "environmentally responsible" and sustainable.

The Public Buildings Department is a half-mile walk from the Eliot MBTA stop (green line, D branch). The #59 MBTA bus also stops nearby at the intersection of Elliot Street and Charles Street.
