Led by Chief Bruce Proia, the Newton City Fire Department operates out of six stations and has nearly 200 firefighters. The department handles three ladder trucks, seven engines, an emergency response unit and more than 20 other vehicles. More than 1,000 fire alarm boxes are located around town.
The headquarters are located between Centre and Willow streets, and there are five other stations in various Newton villages: Station 1 on Church Street, Station 2 on Commonwealth Avenue, Station 4 on Crafts Street, Station 7 on Eliot Street and Station 10 on Dedham Street.
Newton Fire Headquarters is a five-minute walk from the Newton Center MBTA stop (green line, D branch). The #52 MBTA bus also stops nearby at the intersection of Centre and Gibbs streets.
