Not Really a Fair Trade Newton Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Beacon Street. According to police reports, the vehicle's owner said he parked his Subaru station wagon in the driveway the night before, leaving the doors unlocked and the keys under the driver's side floor mat. According to police reports, the vehicle's owner said he parked his Subaru station wagon in the driveway at about 10 p.m. on May 11. He left the doors unlocked with the keys under the driver's side floor mat. At about 6 a.m. on May 12, police reports say, he noticed the vehicle missing from the driveway. A bicycle had been placed in the area of the driveway where the vehicle was parked. B&E and Trespassing Newton Police arrested Jonathan Payne, 22, on May 12, after a caller reported that Payne was currently trespassing in a Christina Street home. Brandon O'Neill will take on the grueling 72-hour race to raise money for Jane Richard.
As he faces yet another hill in his 200 mile race in the mountains of Vermont, Newton resident and Watertown Police Officer Brandon O'Neill said he will have motivation - he is running the race for Boston Marathon bombing victim Jane Richard. The three-year member of the Watertown Police Department will run as many of the 200 miles in the Peak Ultra Marathon in a 72 hour period as he can - raising money to help Richard's recovery with every mile. Richard lost her leg in the Boston Marathon bombing and is starting her recovery. Her brother, Martin, was killed in the bombing and her mother was severely injured. The Music Was Not Loud Enough... A Burlington man was arrested on May 5 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and fell asleep behind the wheel of his car in Newton Corner. According to Newton Police reports, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Street and Centre Street for reports of a male party asleep behind the wheel of a red Mercedes. When officers arrived, they found the car stopped at the traffic signal, just before the on-ramp to the Mass Pike. Reports said the driver was asleep behind the wheel with the doors locked and loud music playing. The vehicle was running and in neutral. License charges, warrant arrest Newton Police responded to Quinobequin Road on May 1 after State Police tried to pull over a vehicle, but lost the car in the area. A detail officer on Woodward Street managed to pull the vehicle over, reports said, and found the driver was driving with a suspended license. The driver also had a warrant out for his arrest. David M. Katz, 57, of 100 Andrew St., was arrested on a warrant out of Lawrence District Court, possession of a class A substance (subsequent offense). He was also cited for driving with a suspended license, police said. Legislation filed in aftermath of John Burbine's arrest aims to fix weaknesses in the state's sex offender registry system.
Local lawmakers and Wakefield’s chief of police were among those calling for changes to the state’s sex offender laws during a Tuesday, May 7 hearing at the State House. The legislation aims to address weaknesses in the sex offender registry system that were brought to light by the John Burbine child sex abuse case. At least one his alleged child sex abuse victims is from Newton. “This legislation will strengthen our laws, provide more information to parents and caregivers, and require information sharing among law enforcement and the agencies we depend on to keep our kids safe,” said Clark. Calling AAA...Under the influence A Wellesley man was arrested on April 26 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and attempted to call AAA after losing a wheel on his vehicle. According to Newton Police reports, officers were dispatched at 9:11 p.m. Friday, April 26, after AAA called the police to report an intoxicated driver attempting to have his tire changed.
