Newton Restaurant Week Set for Oct. 21 - 25

More than a dozen Newton restaurants will be participating.

Updated Oct. 22, 10:45 a.m. with additional information from the mayor's office and updated Restaurant Week deals. As part of Mayor Setti Warren's "13 Villages, One Community" initiative, the city is teaming up with the Phantom Gourmet, the Restaurant and Business Alliance, and the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce to launch the first-ever Newton Restaurant Week.  The restaurant week will run from Sunday, Oct. 21 - Thursday, Oct. 25.  More than a dozen participating restaurants will be offering a special or promotion of their choice, including complementary soup, appetizers, discounted tasting menus and more. Newton to Hold First Walk/Bike Week

The week will feature events highlighting alternate modes of transportation.

Planes, trains and automobiles? How about bicycles, MBTA trains and walking routes? The city of Newton will be promoting alternate modes of transportation during its first ever Walk/Bike Week from September 28 - October 5.  Throughout the Newton Walk/Bike Week, the city will offer a number of events, activities and workshops focused on getting residents out of their cars. More Newton Village Day Celebrations Coming in September

Following the successful village days in Nonantum, Newton Highlands and Waban, a couple of other Newton villages have planned celebrations.

You've seen them in Waban, Newton Highlands and Nonantum. Now, a village day celebration could be coming to a neighborhood near you. Both Newton Upper Falls and Newtonville will hold village days next month, with the Upper Falls Village Day on Sunday, Sept. 23 and Newtonville Village Day on Saturday, Sept. 29.  The first Upper Falls Village Day will be held at the Emerson Community Center on Pettee Street. The all-day celebration will include tables with a number of vendors and community organizations as well as fun activities for the whole family. Nominations Sought for Newton Business Excellence Awards

The awards are spearheaded by the Newton Economic Development Commission.

Do you know an individual, business or organization that has had a positive impact on Newton's economic development? They could be a contender for a first-ever Newton Business Excellence Award.  Spearheaded by the Newton Economic Development Commission and Mayor Setti Warren, the awards aim to recognize those who have helped contribute to the vitality of Newton's village centers as well as improve the commercial community in the Garden City.  The awards, which were announced late last week, are open to businesses, organizations and individuals currently active in Newton.
