Newton Rallies to Make a Big Difference With a Smaller Footprint
A local Global Work Party rally was held to educate and motivate people in the community to help stop global warming.
On Oct. 10, Newton became a part of a global initiative; it was one piece in an international movement to make a big difference. That day--10/10/10--people participating in more than 7000 events in 188 countries held Global Work Parties to help stop climate change. Newton had its own event at City Hall held in conjunction with Newton Green Decade, which included a rally, tree plating and a bike ride. Local officials, activists and many members of the Newton community attended the event, including Mayor Setti Warren. "We in Newton are really playing a leadership role in reducing our carbon footprint throughout the state of Massachusetts and the country," Warren said.
