Newton Police End Search in Infant Abandonment Case

The investigation will continue, police said, and detectives are asking the author of the note to come forward.

Newton Police have ended their search of a recycling facility after this weekend's case involving a possible infant abandonment. According to Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker, Newton Police were down at the Recycle America waste management facility in Avon this morning, but ended the search with negative results.  Police began the search this weekend after a woman in Newtonville found box containing a note saying a 15-year-old mother by the name of "Bimini" was abandoning her 4-month-old daughter, "Sonny." The box was found inside the woman's recycling bin and State Police traced the recycling route to the facility in Avon. State Police sorted through more than 100 tons of material at the facility on Saturday, coming up with negative results. …

[UPDATED: 11:26 p.m.] Newton Police Treating Possibly Abandoned Baby as Serious (Video)

Otis Street resident reported a box containing a note indicating that mother, "Bimini" had abandoned her baby, "Sonny." Newton Police are treating the situation as serious.

Newton Police learned about a potentially abandoned baby at about 6:30 p.m. Friday when a woman living on Otis Street called to report a box containing a note. At a press conference today, Lt. Bruce Apotheker revealed that the hand-written note indicated that a 15-year-old mother by the name of "Bimini" was abandoning her four-month-old daughter, "Sonny." At this time, the police are treating the incident as serious, although they have not yet found any evidence that an infant was in the box. Apotheker indicated that they will follow up any leads. According to the police report, the box was found in the residents' recycling bin. Recycling was collected earlier in the afternoon by Waste Management. State Police have traced the recycling …
