Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Donors Desperately Needed
The Jewish Community Center of the North Shore will hold an emergency drive on Monday to help a Newton woman and others, find a match.
With just a month to find a donor for one Newton woman battling Leukemia, the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore is hoping to find a match locally Monday. In partnership with the Gift of Life Foundation, the JCC is holding an urgent Stem Cell & Bone Marrow Drive on Monday, from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Melissa Evan, 60, is battling Acute Meyloid Leukemia. Only a stem cell transplant can save her life. Because Melissa is an Ashkenazi Jew - of Russian and Polish descent - she's more likely to find a match in a Jewish community where people share her ancestry. "Melissa is in dire need," said Suzi Fuld of Gift of Life. "She needs a match in time for a transplant in Nov. There is no one in the existing registry that is a match." …
