Boston magazine’s expert staff visited hundreds of restaurants in and around Boston to present readers with a list of the absolute best restaurants the Boston area has to offer, be it high-end, casual, veteran or upstart dining. Newton’s own Lumière was included in this year’s list. Lumière’s elegant atmosphere perfectly compliments their simple and sophisticated menu. Updated 8/8, 11:04 a.m. As many people in Newton already know, the Garden City has some of the best services, restaurants and retail shops in Greater Boston -- maybe even the state. So, it may not come as a surprise that Newton was well-represented in this year's Best of Boston issue from Boston Magazine. More than a dozen businesses/services received recognition from the magazine in both Boston-based awards and "West of the City" categories. The following is a press release issued by Boston Magazine: Boston magazine named Newton as the 12th best public school district in Massachusetts in their September 2011 issue. Boston magazine crunched the numbers in an exclusive ranking of the best public school districts and biggest values in the area. Rankings were based on data gathered from consulting school officials and websites, as well as the Massachusetts Department of Education. Determining factors of the district rankings includes test scores from elementary, middle, and high schools in 135 districts, per pupil spending, student to teacher ratio, number of AP classes, graduation rate, percent of students who continue to college, as well as the amount of sports teams and clubs. …

Boston Magazine's "Best of Boston" issue hit news stands this week, with several local businesses making the list.
When it comes to hair salons, day spas, book stores and bars west of Boston, Newton knows its stuff. Eight Newton businesses made the list for Boston Magazine's "Best of Boston" issue, which was released yesterday (July 26). The Newton businesses took home awards in the "West of the City" categories. The following Newton businesses made the issue: Information provided by Boston Magazine press release. Editor's Note: Urban Grape was not included in the initial release, however, it did receive the award and is technically located in the Newton section of Chestnut Hill.
