Tigers Football Ready For Turkey Day Showdown

Newton North faces Brookline 10 a.m. Thursday.

With a solid week of practice under its belt, the Newton North High School football team is gearing up for the annual Thanksgiving Day game against Bay State Conference-foe Brookline. “I think we’re two equal teams,” said Tigers coach Peter Capodilupo. ”They’ve won their last three-out-of-four games. It’s always a game between us. It’s a rivalry game in which anything can happen.” The rivalry, which stretches back to 1894, is a prerogative every year for Newton North as Capodilupo noted that their number one pre-season goal is always to beat Brookline. The Tigers and Warriors met on friendly ground Tuesday in preparation for tomorrow's big game, a meeting that included a wager from Mayor Setti Warren.

Two days before they face off on the field, high school football players, cheerleaders, town officials, and Rotary Club members from Newton and Brookline met at the Brae Burn Country Club in Newton Tuesday afternoon to break bread and have a few laughs about a town rivalry as old as football.
