Funeral Arrangements for Newton Alderman Carleton Merrill

Merrill was first elected to the Newton Board of Aldermen in 1950 and previously served as the city's veterans and licensing agent.

Funeral services and arrangements have been made for Newton Ward 1 Alderman-at-Large Carleton Merrill, who passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the age of 88. A wake will be held on Monday, Jan. 28 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home on Centre Street in Newton Corner.  A funeral for Merrill will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Newton Cemetery Chapel on Walnut Street in Newton Centre. Merrill was a lifelong Newton resident who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was first elected to the Newton Board of Aldermen in 1950 and worked as the city's veterans and licensing agent for many years.  The Newtonville Avenue resident served the city and region in a number of different positions …

Carleton Merrill was one of the most decent individuas that I have ever met. I first met Carleton when I was elected to the Board of Aldermen in 1973 and he was the Veterans' Service and Licensing Department head.
