Members from the Chabad of Newton Centre lit the city's menorah last night for the first night of Hanukkah.
With Hanukkah beginning last night at sundown, the city celebrated the first night of the Festival of Lights with the traditional menorah lighting at the Newton Centre Green. Members from Chabad of Newton Centre hosted the festivities, which included an appearance from Mayor Setti Warren. Warren lit the center, service candle -- known as the Shamash -- which then lights the other menorah candles on each night of Hanukkah. "The service candle stands and towers above the others, but it serves all the others...the mayor leads and serves this wonderful city and may god bless Mayor Warren and the entire staff of the city of Newton," said Rabbi Moshe Lieberman.
