Two people were transported to area hospitals Wednesday night after a head-on collision in West Newton, according to the Newton Fire Department. In a post on its Twitter feed this morning, the Fire Department said the accident occurred near the intersection of Cherry Street and Derby Street. Engine 4 and Ladder 1 responded to the scene. According to Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker, a call for the two-car accident came in at 9:36 p.m. The accident location was around 154 Cherry St. Newton Police and Fire could not provide additional details on the accident at this time.
