Newton Restaurants, Grocers Taking Part in Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer

The fundraiser is happening through May 12.

A cancer fundraiser involving sweet treats is now underway, and nearly a dozen Newton and Chestnut Hill businesses are taking part.  Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, in its 14th year, started Monday and runs through Sunday, May 12. Last year's event raised more than $78,000. Participating businesses create a special dessert to include on their menu, with proceeds from that dessert benefiting cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., a non-profit breast cancer organization. Bernard's Brings Old Favorites to a New Venue in Chestnut Hill

Popular Chinese restaurant Bernard's has reopened at THE STREET in Chestnut Hill. Patch spoke to General Manager Allan Lam and bartender Tim Tighe about what makes the restaurant such a local hotspot.

When Bernard’s closed its doors at the Mall at Chestnut Hill, a nearly audible cry of dismay arose from around Newton and Chestnut Hill. Longtime patrons of the popular Chinese restaurant wondered where they would dine locally for their favorite Asian dishes. During Patch's interview earlier this week, a customer came in to the restaurant (which had not yet opened for the day) and spoke to the gentleman manning the front desk. “So, are you really open now?” she inquired. When this was confirmed, she continued, “I’m so glad! When I went to the Mall (at Chestnut Hill) and saw that you had closed, my heart just sank.  But then I saw the big red sign out front here, and I came in to make sure it was true. I am so glad you are back!” And they …

Bernard's Has Reopened in Chestnut Hill

The "gourmet Asian" restaurant was previously located in the Mall at Chestnut Hill.

Months after the popular Bernard's restaurant closed at the Mall at Chestnut Hill, the "gourmet Asian" eatery has finally reopened next door at The Street.  The restaurant opened Tuesday, April 16, according to The Street Facebook page and website. It is located in the new building recently constructed at 55 Boylston St., next to the new City Sports and below Sports Club/LA. Bernard's closed its location at the Mall at Chestnut Hill in early 2013 as it prepared to relocate to The Street. Meanwhile, the Mall announced in February that a new Tokyo Japanese Steak House would fill the space vacated by Bernard's. According to The Street's website, Bernard's offers Asian cuisine with "only the freshest ingredients and the finest aromatic spices…

WATCH: Construction Crews Prep for a New Building in Chestnut Hill

The old City Sports/Century Bank building has been reduced to rubble. Meanwhile, a new City Sports officially opened last week, along with a new Pottery Barn and Sports Cub/LA.

As we noted earlier this month, the former City Sports/Century Bank building at 37 Boylston St. in Chestnut Hill is no more -- and we recently caught some of the clean-up on video. This site will soon be the home of a three-story, mixed-use building that will include retail space, office space and potentially restaurant space. The project is part of owner WS Development's redevelopment of the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center, which is now rebranded as The Street. Meanwhile, City Sports has officially reopened a few doors down in a new, 115,000-square-foot building on the former Macy's site. The City Sports opened on Thursday, March 14 and held a grand opening celebration on Saturday, March 16.  In addition to City Sports, the new Sports Club/…

City Sports, Century Bank Building Comes Down in Chestnut Hill [Photos]

The City Sports will be reopening in the new building next door and Century Bank will be moving to the new Chestnut Hill Square development.

[Updated 12:20 p.m. with information on the City Sports opening date.] As one building goes up, another comes down.  If you travel Route 9 often, you've probably noticed a few new piles of rubble at The Street in Chestnut Hill, as the building that housed City Sports and Century Bank was recently torn down.  The tear-down is just a few doors away from The Street's new, 115,000-square-foot building that will house a number of new restaurants and retail stores, including a new City Sports location, a Sports Club/LA, Pinkberry and Showcase Super Lux movie theater.  Century Bank, which closed the Chestnut Hill location in fall 2012, has decided to move its branch to the new Chestnut Hill Square development, which is slated to open in fall 2013…

Two New Restaurants Coming to Newton's Mall at Chestnut Hill

The mall recently saw the exit of Bernard's and Charley's.

Just a few weeks after losing Charley's Saloon and Bernard's, the Mall at Chestnut Hill announced yesterday two new eateries will be moving into the vacated restaurant spaces. Besito and Tokyo Japanese Steak House will both open in the mall this summer, according to a press release issued Wednesday.  "These are unique restaurants for the area and our shoppers are sure to love the experience and dining atmosphere at both,” Simon Property Group Senior Vice President of Leasing Cindy Kernan said in the press release. Besito will be moving into the first floor space formerly occupied by Charley's Saloon, which abruptly closed last month after decades in Chestnut Hill. According to the Besito website, the Mexican-style restaurant has three …

The Asian restaurant was formerly located in the Mall at Chestnut Hill.

Have you been missing the food from Bernard's restaurant in the Mall at Chestnut Hill? Have no fear. The Asian eatery, which recently closed its mall location, will be opening up a new spot at The Street in Chestnut Hill.  So, when can you expect an opening? According to WS Development Field Marketing Manager Allison Yee, Bernard's is aiming for an opening in late March.  The new location will be situated on the lower level of the new building currently being constructed on the former Macy's site, Yee said. It will face Route 9 and sit between the Showcase Super Lux lobby and City Sports.
