Patrick-Murray Administration Awards $74K Grant to Newton Business

The Newton business' $74,640 grant is part of a $6.8 million Workforce Training Fund Grant package given to 87 Mass. companies.

Eighty-seven businesses from 66 towns across Massachusetts are getting a little extra money to put toward developing their staff. Governor Deval Patrick's office announced today a $6.8 million package of grants to put toward workplace training. One of those grants is coming to Newton.  Newton-based Commodore Builders, a general contracting company, received $74,640 to train 76 employees, according to a press release issued today. Four additional jobs will be created as a result of this training. "We are focused on addressing the skills gap issue in the Commonwealth so that workers can compete in today’s ever-changing jobs market,” said Governor Deval Patrick in the release. Newton Firm Acquires Winchester Construction Company

A.J. Martini, Inc., of Winchester, is a 60-year-old construction manager and general contractor.

Newton construction management firm Commodore Builders announced this week that it has acquired Winchester-based A.J. Martini, Inc., a 60-year-old construction manager and general contracting company. A.J. Martini CEO Paul Martini will become senior vice president at Commodore Builders, according to a report this week in the Boston Herald. Peter Martini will come on board as vice president and lead the business unit.  The acquisition of A.J. Martini will allow Commodore Builders to expand its business to the institutional, commercial, health-care and life sciences sectors, according to the Herald report.  Business operations will remain at Commodore's Bridge Street headquarters in Newton, the Herald reported.  For more information, check …
