Newton North loses in overtime to Concord-Carlisle, 3-2.
For the first 24 minutes of Saturday afternoon's game, neither the Newton North boys lacrosse team nor Concord-Carlisle could find the back of the net. And after another 24 minutes transpired, both teams managed only two goals each, sending the contest into overtime. There, the Tigers fell victim to a game-winning shot by Matt Carrol less than two minutes into the period. But for Newton North head coach Bussy Adam, the 3-2 loss to C-C was the result of giveaways. “We turned the ball over I don’t know how many times,” he said. “You can’t do that. Both Newton South boys and girls cross country finished fifth overall.
Amid overcast skies and warmer-than-average temperatures, the Newton South boys and girls cross country teams made their city proud with first and second individual finishes yesterday. Newton's David Melly beat out 82 runners from 11 schools in the boys varsity race. Melly finished first in the three-mile race with a time of 15:82 and an average mile of just over five minutes. "For the first mile, I was a bit stiff," Melly said after the race. "Overall, it was a tough race. When we came out of the woods, a coach yelled to me,'no regrets,' so I gave it everything I had until the end." In the girls varsity race, Newton South's Kathy O'Keefe crossed the finish line second, just two seconds behind first place finisher Andrea Keklak of Lincoln-…
