Black Friday is done. Small Business Saturday, over. But fear not, bargain shoppers — today is Cyber Monday. Launched by Shop.org in 2005 as a way to carry forth the shopping momentum of Black Friday, by last year Cyber Monday had enticed shoppers to spend more than $1 billion online, according to comScore — the most spent in on cybershopping in a single day. And it’s no wonder. With deals rivaling Black Friday doorbusters a mere click away — and the day currently being repackaged as “Cyber Week” by many retailers — it’s tempting for many to continue bargain hunting at their desks. This year online sales are projected to hit record high.
If you missed out on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday you still may be in luck. Cyber Monday kicks off tomorrow with businesses big and small looking to sell in big numbers. The retail holiday has grown leaps and bounds over the past few years. Shop.org coined the term "Cyber Monday" in 2005 when technology caught up with demand as retailers found ways to make Black Friday type sales without customers having to line up during the early morning hours. According to the National Retail Federation, NRF, Cyber Monday this year plans to be the biggest yet as nine out of ten retailers plan special promotions to lure customers into making purchases online. Today is another one of the biggest shopping days of the year--for online shoppers, anyway. Also known as Cyber Monday, many online retailers will offer deals and steals today for those looking to avoid the holiday shopping crowds. The Newton Senior Center will host a Parkinson's Disease support group from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The group, which is free and open to the public, is run by a former physician and Parkinson's Disease patient. Kids 12 and up can join in on a poetry writing workshop at the Newton Free Library at 7:30 p.m. The free workshop runs each Monday from now until Dec. 13. We have done all of our shopping online the past 5 years and used a website called The Online Shopping Mall at http://jimdavisenterprises.blogspot.com for the past three. They only work with established retailers and look for the best bargains on highly-rated products, and put everything on one website. Most things ship for free. I love it.   more ›
