Sycamore's GM Knows Less is More at New Newton Centre Bistro

Sycamore General Manager Zach Lieberman has a very clear sense of what he, owner/chef David Punch, and the whole team want for their new Newton Centre restaurant.

Three days after Sycamore quietly opened its doors -- and following months of anticipation and buzz -- Zach Lieberman says that he isn’t nearly as nervous as he thought he’d be in his first gig as a general manager. That could be because, for a young man, Lieberman has an impressive amount of experience. Raised in Lexington, Lieberman dropped out of high school at 16 and quickly found a job as an expediter (making sure food came out of the kitchen and to the diners correctly and quickly) at Lexx, a then-new restaurant in his hometown. From there he moved onto Craigie Street Bistro and then to Oleana. Finally, after some travel, Lieberman landed at Island Creek Oyster Bar. A Sneak Peek at the New Menu for Sycamore in Newton Centre

The new restaurant, launched by David Punch of Ten Tables, is set to open sometime next month.

Although Newton Centre's newest restaurant, Sycamore, is not set to open until sometime next month, the chef and owners have sent out a sneak peek of the restaurant's new menus. In an email sent earlier this month to mailing list subscribers, the folks at Sycamore offered up details on the upcoming offerings for dinner, wine, beer and cocktails.  Flip through the menu previews in the .pdf section to the right. One disclaimer: the menu items are "subject to change upon market availability," the email said. Ten Tables owner David Punch and partner Shane Smyth are behind the new restaurant venture at 755 Beacon St. The two announced over the summer their plans to open the new eatery, which is located in the former John Dewar & Co. space. …
