Who has the best “decked” house in Newton?  According to users who voted in our annual Deck the House contest, this home owned by the Kaplan family has the best holiday lights in Newton. We had tons of national entries in this year’s Deck the House contest and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santa to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. We loved showcasing everyone’s holiday spirit, but Deck the House isn’t over yet. We’re still looking for the one home so spectacularly decorated that it could be the national grand prize winner of our contest. Did you decorate your house for the holidays this year? Enter our "Deck the House" contest and you could win $100,000 for the Newton Public Schools and $500 to pay your electric bills!

We’re launching our annual Deck the House Contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country—the one home so spectacularly decorated that everyone in town jokes your holiday decorations could rival Rockefeller Center’s. If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our contest page from Nov. 26 to Dec. 16. Only residents of Patch towns are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, and from them, pick one grand prize winner. Patch will pay up to $500 of the utility bill for each finalist, while our national winner will have $100,000 donated to his or her local school district. 1. Face Up to Facebook! Want to learn more about what Facebook is and how to use it? The Newton Senior Center will offer a free seminar today for seniors who want to learn how to use the social media network. The event starts at 1 p.m.  2. Proposed signage. The Urban Design Commission will meet tonight at 7 in the planning conference room (basement level) at City Hall. The commission will take up several requests for signage across the city.  3. Just a few days left to enter our "Deck the House Contest"! The deadline is Dec. 26 for submissions and votes for your favorite decked houses around the city.
