Tigers Boys Lacrosse Playoff Bound After Victory

Newton North defeats Dedham, 20-1.

The Newton North boys lacrosse team relieved a burden in the easiest of ways Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers steamrolled Bay State Conference foe Dedham, 20-1, and with the victory punched their ticket to the postseason for the first time in three years. “We got the monkey of our back,” said Newton North head coach Bussy Adam. “We’re back in the tournament.” The coach elaborated that although it was not a competitive contest, there were positives to draw from the game. “I think the biggest benifit was we got a lot of different kids in there, a lot of different positions, tried a lot of different things in preparation for Wellesley,” he said. “You know, a win is a win. And a lot of kids gained confidence today and hopefully we’ll carry that…

Newton North Attacks Early, Takes a "W" Against Dedham

After scoring 27 points in the first half, Newton North Tigers went on to improve their record to 3-4.

Newton North tacked on the points early in Saturday's game, eventually snagging a win against the struggling Dedham High team at Westwood's Flahive Field, 33-15.  The win checks off one of the recent goals set by head coach Peter Capodilupo. The win was a turnaround for the Tigers, who dropped their last game to Weymouth and fell to 2-4.  Newton capitalized early, leading  27-7 at the first half and scoring two touchdowns in each of the first two quarters of the game. Dedham's banged up defensive unit came alive to hold the Tigers scoreless in the third, then outscored Newton North 8-6 in the fourth quarter. "I was really impressed with the way we fought, especially in the second half," said Comeau. "We had a lot of guys on the field that …

Newton North Football Looks For Turnaround Against Dedham

At 2-4, the Tigers need to start racking up wins to get over the .500 mark.

As the football season is winding down, Newton North head football coach Peter Capodilupo has three goals for his football team: beat Brookline on Thanksgiving, finish with a winning season and take a "W" in this week's game. The Tigers are off to a 2-4 start, but the coach still feels good about his checklist. "Even though we have struggled I still think our three goals are still viable and still alive, and I think the kids feel that way too," said Capodilupo. The Tigers will look to right the ship and put a check mark next to that last goal on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Dedham High School. The game will take place at Westwood High—a neutral site due to Dedham's home field undergoing renovations this season. Dedham has struggled to a 1…
