Five Things You Need to Know This Week: Jan. 21-27

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Gathering The city of Newton will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a community gathering at Temple Beth Avodah on Monday, Jan. 21 at 9:30 a.m. The event will include musical performances, remarks from Mayor Setti Warren and Superintendent David Fleishman as well as readings by interfaith clergy from across the city. Newton Public School students will also read essays inspired by the life and legacy of Dr. King.    2. Newton Board of Aldermen meet The Newton Board of Aldermen will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7:45 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chamber at City Hall (note the later meeting time due to the MLK Day holiday).  The board will vote Tuesday on several items, including a …
