Anyone who has not had a flu shot should not visit the hospital.
With a flu epidemic affecting much of the country, local hospitals are hoping to protect their patients by keeping visits to a minimum. Newton-Wellesley Hospital has put in place a number of visitor restrictions to help limit the spread of the flu virus, according to the hospital's website. The city of Newton still has flu vaccines and is also offering a free flu clinic, by appointment, this week at the Newton Free Library.
Updated 4 p.m. With a flu epidemic that has swept the region--and much of the country--many local pharmacies are running low on flu shots as the public rushes to get last-minute vaccinations. As of early Monday afternoon, most of Newton's pharmacies were out of the flu shot, but several reported more shipments were on the way: Before heading out to get a shot, pharmacists urged locals to call the pharmacy in advance to make sure flu vaccines are available. The Newton Dept. of Health & Human Services is also offering free flu shots this week, by appointment. Like many communities, Newton has had a significant increase in flu cases this year (over last year), with more than 130 cases so far this season.
As the region continues to deal with a bad flu season, Newton health officials have offered a number of tips on how to stay healthy and where to get a flu vaccine locally. FYI, I got my flu shot last week at the CVS on Highland in Needham. Not only did they seem to have plenty of shots on hand, but I had ZERO wait time for my shot even though it was midday.   more ›
