Bielat, Kennedy Square Off to Talk 'American Dream'

Fourth Congressional District Candidates sparred on issues relating to the "American Dream," Including jobs, the economy, education, and health care.

In their second debate Wednesday, Fourth Congressional District candidates Sean Bielat and Joe Kennedy III took center stage in front of a packed room at UMass Dartmouth’s Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center in Fall River to discuss the "American Dream." Bielat (R-Norfolk) and Kennedy (D-Brookline) sparred on issues related to the "American Dream," including jobs, the economy, education and health care. The debate was sponsored by MassINC, publisher of Commonwealth Magazine and moderated by Michael Goodman, the chair of the public policy department at UMass Dartmouth. Bielat has the leadership and communication skills that have been missing in the MA 4th congressional representation. He also knows the pain points of the people, exhibited tonight with his cost concerns of buying diapers and formula for his young children. Kennedy Agrees to Debate Appearances; Bielat "Disappointed" with Announcement

Sean Bielat responded to a statement today from Joe Kennedy III announcing his appearance in three general election debates.

As the general election race for the Fourth Congressional District heats up, so begins a debate about debates. Fourth District Democratic candidate Joe Kennedy III announced earlier today three general election debate appearances, including a spot on WCVB's "On the Record" and a candidates night at Wellesley College. A few hours after Kennedy's announcement, Fourth District Republican candidate Sean Bielat responded to the debate announcements with a letter stating he was "disappointed" to see Kennedy agree to only three debates. In his response, Bielat said he has accepted 16 debate offers to date. Kennedy will face Bielat in the Nov. 6 general election for the Fourth Congressional District seat currently held by Barney Frank.  According …

How Newton Voted in Thursday's State Primary

Just 17 percent of Newton voters made it out to the polls yesterday.

When it comes to the Fourth Congressional District race in November, Newton residents made their choice loud and clear: Kennedy vs. Bielat.  With 93 percent of the total Newton votes cast in the Democratic primary, Joe Kennedy III had an easy victory in the Garden City over Rachel Brown and hometown candidate Herb Robinson, according to unofficial results from the Newton Election Commission. A copy of Newton's unofficial election results is included in the .pdf to the right. Likewise, Republican Sean Bielat earned 76 percent of the Newton vote in his primary race against Elizabeth Childs and David Steinhof.  Newton's voting aligned with that of the rest of the state, where Kennedy managed to get more than 90 percent of the vote and Bielat …

UPDATED: Kennedy, Devaney Win Democratic Primaries

The Fourth Congressional District, District Three Governor's Council and South Middlesex Registry of Deeds all had primary races on the Newton ballot.

Update 12:30 a.m. With the combined results numbers from the Boston Globe and Waltham Patch, it appears Maria Curtatone has won the South Middlesex Register of Deeds race with 24 percent of the vote. Former Newton Mayor Tom Concannon finished third, according to these results, with 17 percent of the vote. 11:10 p.m. Democratic incumbent Marilyn Devaney has won the primary for the District Three Governor's Council seat, per the Associated Press. GOP Congressional Candidates Talk Entitlement Programs, Economy, Foreign Policy

Fourth Congressional District Republican candidates squared off Monday night in front of a packed lecture hall at Bristol Community College's Attleboro campus to debate issues including Social Security and Medicare, foreign policy, taxes, and the economy. VIDEO: Kennedy Opens New Campaign Office in Attleboro

Several dozen supporters crammed into a small room on North Main Street Saturday afternoon for the opening of congressional candidate Joseph Kennedy III's Attleboro campaign office. Kennedy, who has opened additional offices in Fall River and Medway, has his campaign headquarters located on Chestnut Street in Newton Upper Falls.  During the opening of his new office, Kennedy called Attleboro "the heart of the [4th] district." He thanked the supporters for their help, which included canvassing the neighborhoods in the near 100-degree heat. Kennedy, 31, is heavily favored to win the Sept. 6 primary.
