Lions Finish Season With a Fight

Newton South lost their Turkey Day game 21-7 against Lincoln-Sudbury.

Records didn't matter and playoffs didn't matter; it was a Thanksgiving Day game. Despite their hard-fought fight, though, Newton South finished their season with a 21-7 loss to Lincoln-Sudbury, who will continue to the playoffs next week in a game against Gloucester.  "This epitomizes the season," said Newton South coach Ted Dalicandro. "We are fighting in every game then we make mistake here and there. All of a sudden it goes from 7-0 to 21-0." Newton South would not score until 2:21 was left in the fourth quarter. After dropping the handoff on a draw play, senior captain Jerrett Atkinson picked up the ball and broke down the middle of the field for a 48-yard touchdown. Lions Up Against League's Best on Thanksgiving

Newton South will take on Lincoln-Sudbury tomorrow in Sudbury.

To gain a little respect you have to beat the best--and that's exactly what Newton South head football coach Ted Dalicandro is hoping for on Thanksgiving Day. The Lions will travel to Lincoln-Sudbury on Thursday at 10:15 to take on the top team in the Dual County League. The holiday rival is still in its adolescent stages--compared to some local rivalries--but Dalicandro believes he is lucky to play such a talented team in the last game of the season every year. "L-S is one of the best teams in the league and in the state," said Dalicandro, whose Lions are 1-9 this season. "You want to end your year beating the best teams. That's the way we are looking at it." Lincoln-Sudbury is on a four-game win streak, and although their point …
