The city of Newton held its Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at Corpus Christi-St. Bernard's Parish in West Newton yesterday. The morning included music, readings from local students, prayers from community members and remarks from local politicians.

As we celebrate Martin Luther King Day, we want to know how far you think we've come.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." So goes a part of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech that he delivered on Aug. 28, 1963. Jan. 16 is Martin Luther King Day and as we reflect on King's life and work, it seems reasonable to ask whether we've achieved King's dream. According to Wikipedia, "post-racial America" is "a theoretical environment where the United States is void of racial preference, discrimination, and prejudice." Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

  1. MLK Day. The city will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today with an event at Corpus Christi-St. Bernard Parish in West Newton (1529 Washington St.). The event will feature music, readings, prayers from community members and remarks from local political figures including Congressman Barney Frank. The event starts at 10 a.m.   2. Trash delayed this week. Due to today's holiday, trash and recycling pick-up will be delayed by one day this week.  3. What's open/closed?
