Markey or Lynch: Who Would You Vote for Today?

Democratic Congressmen Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch will face off in a primary on April 30 in the race to fill the Massachusetts Senate seat vacated by new Secretary of State John Kerry. And now, there may be a Republican challenger.

  We have a race. On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch became the second candidate to officially enter the race to fill the Senate seat vacated by brand-new Secretary of State John Kerry, following his fellow Democratic Congressman Ed Markey. Lynch and Markey will now face off in a primary set for April 30 for the right to represent the Democratic Party in the special election on June 25 against a still unknown Republican opponent. No GOP candidate has officially entered the race yet. Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown announced Friday that he would not run for Senate. Date Set For Massachusetts Special Senate Election

Nomination papers for candidates will be available soon.

The special election to fill the U.S. Senate seat John Kerry will likely soon vacate will be held on June 25, according to the Boston Globe. The primary election will be held on April 30. Kerry, who has been nominated to become the next Secretary of State, will likely submit his resignation on Tuesday, Jan. 29 immediately before the full U.S. Senate votes to confirm him, according to the Globe. Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin plans to make nomination papers for Kerry’s seat available soon and would give candidates four weeks to collect the 10,000 signatures required to get on the primary ballot, according to the Globe.  To date, U.S. Congressman Ed Markey has announced he is running and U.S. Congressman Stephen Lynch is …
