Local elected officials and community members gathered Wednesday for the annual Mayor's Community Prayer Breakfast at Boston College and to pay tribute to former Newton Mayor Ted Mann. Mayor Setti Warren officially renamed the breakfast in Mann's honor.
"With a passion, determination and twinkle in his eye, and a great sense of humor, Mayor Ted Mann changed the face of Newton for the better and cemented our community as one of the best places to live in the world." The annual Mayor's Community Prayer Breakfast will be held next Wednesday, May 23, at Boston College.
Along with a number of local officials, community members and religious leaders, Mayor Setti Warren will welcome Boston Mayor Tom Menino to the Mayor's Community Prayer Breakfast next week. The annual event, which will be held Wed., May 23 at Boston College, aims to bring together community members from all walks of life and religions to support the Foundation for Racial, Ethnic and Religious Harmony. Mayor Setti Warren announced this week he is taking a couple of measures to continue the legacy of former Newton Mayor Theodore Mann. According to a press release issued this week, Warren will name the annual Mayor's Community Prayer Breakfast in honor of Mann. In addition, the annual Community Service Award will be given in Mann's name. Tom Menino is the Roslindale native who had no clue where the city of Newton was located 20 years ago. In the early 1990's Menino was quoted as saying he had heard of Newton, it was out in the western part of the state.
