Reservoir Search for Missing BC Student Put on Hold; K-9 Search to Start

Dive teams will resume their search of the reservoir tomorrow morning.

With daylight fading in Chestnut Hill, State Police dive teams will resume their search tomorrow for missing Boston College student Franco Garcia.  After more than an hour in the water, State Police divers came up with negative results in their search of the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. Prior to that, State Police spent roughly three hours searching the reservoir with a sonar scanner. According to State Police Spokesman David Procopio, divers will be back around 8 a.m. Tuesday.  In the meantime, Procopio said State Police troopers will use a K-9 unit to search the area around the reservoir.   Garcia, 21, of West Newton, has been missing since 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, when he was last seen at Mary Ann's bar in Cleveland Circle (Brighton).  The …

The dive team will use cameras and other related equipment to search for the missing Boston College student.

[Update: The State Police dive boat went in at around 10 a.m., to investigate an object they had seen at about 8:30 a.m. The object turned out to be a dead bird. Police are now doing a perimeter scan of reservoir using a side sonar scanner, which takes pic of bottom of reservoir. If they see anything, will send in diver. "We have no reason to believe he's in the reservoir, but that he's nowhere else." explained David Procopio Director of Media Communications for the State Police, "We sincerely hope they don't find him in the reservoir today." Family and friends head to Mary Ann's in Cleveland Circle to spread the word about missing BC student Franco Garcia.

Friends and family of missing Boston College student Franco Garcia gathered outside Mary Ann's bar in Brighton yesterday to share information about the missing West Newton man.  Garcia, 21, was last seen at Mary Ann's in Cleveland Circle around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday. Since then, Garcia has not attended classes or shown up for work. His car remains at Boston College, where he left it Tuesday. Friends and family braved the cold outside the bar at an information table, holding signs and passing out fliers, speaking with passers-by and press.  "The outpouring of support has been amazing," said Rachele Reis, a BC student and one of Garcia's friends. Friends of Missing Newton Man to Hold Info Session

Franco Garcia, 21, has been missing since the early morning hours of Wed., Feb. 22.

The friends and family of a missing Boston College student are hoping to spread more information to the public about their fellow classmate, who has been missing since early Wednesday morning.  Franco Garcia, 21, of West Newton, was last seen on Feb. 22 around 12:15 a.m. at Mary Ann's Bar  in Cleveland Circle. He has not attended classes or shown up for work since that time.  Garcia's friends and classmates will be setting up an information table tomorrow, Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside Mary Ann's, 1937 Beacon St., Brighton. The group will have flyers in both English and Spanish to pass out to people in the area. Hi Christine -- Yes, we heard this as well. However, State Police are reporting this morning that they have not been dispatched to search the Reservoir, and as of right now it is still just local police on the investigation.   more ›

Police Seek Help in Finding Missing Newton Man [UPDATED]

The West Newton man was last seen on Feb. 22 in Brighton.

Updated 2/26, 6:50 p.m.  Friends and family of Franco Garcia gathered outside Mary Ann's bar Sunday in hopes of spreading the word about his disappearance. "He is a very good boy, a good person," Garcia's mother, Luzmilla Garcia, told Patch. "His dream was to--is to finish Chemistry, to be a doctor in Chemistry." Garcia's mother also spoke about her son's love of music and how he plays in the college's marching band.  "I need all the help everybody can give me," Luzmilla Garcia said.  Franco Garcia, 21, of West Newton, has been missing since roughly 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.
