UPDATED: Patch RV Coming to Newton Today

Due to time constraints, the Patch RV will not be making a stop in Newton today. But enter our contest for a chance to win swag!

Update 1/30: Unfortunately, due to time constraints the Patch RV will not be able to stop in Newton today as previously planned. The St. Mary of Carmen Festival will continue tonight at Pellegrini Park in Nonantum starting at 6 p.m. There will be rides, live music, games, food and a Holy Triduum Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady's Help of Christian Parish at 573 Washington St.  2. The Newton Free Library has announced this week that it is extending its museum passes to cover the Boston Harbor Islands park area. According to an email from the library, the pass allows library members to purchase one ferry ticket and to receive a second ticket for free, with a limit of two free tickets per member per day. 1.  Did you know you can check out a free basic training class on Mondays and Thursdays at the West Suburban YMCA from 6 a.m. - 7 a.m.? Even if you are not a YMCA member, feel free to stop by and try it out. The class, which takes place at the outside track, includes cardio conditioning, strength training and more.  2. Week in Review: Summer is in Full Swing

Little league, farmers' markets, swimming...it all spells summer and it's all happening here in Newton.

With the July 4 holiday starting off the week, Newton was filled with carnival rides, games and fireworks on Monday. Check out photos from the family-friendly events as well as some great shots of the Monday night fireworks at Albemarle field.  Our historical Then & Now column also featured some fun Fourth of July information this week: the writers of "America the Beautiful" and "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" both lived in Newton at points during their lives.  Disturbing news came out of Wayland during the holiday weekend when 18-year-old Lauren Astely was found murdered and half-submerged in water no Water Row in Wayland.
