The Lions faced the Newton North Tigers Wednesday night at Newton North
In a thrilling overtime finish, the No. 17 Newton South girls' basketball team (11-10) defeated No. 1 Newton North Wednesday night, 49-45, securing a spot for the Lions in the South Div. 1 quarterfinals. Although Newton South came in as the underdogs, they jumped on their opponents early on in the game, taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, the Newton South Denebola reported. Going into the half, North had a 20-18 lead, but the Lions regained ground and had a 35-33 lead heading into the final quarter, the Denebola reported. The Lincoln-Sudbury girls' basketball team, in teaming up with the American Cancer Society, hosted a Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness game Friday night against Newton South. Through head basketball coach Liza Feldman's work with the Coaches vs. Cancer program, the Warriors chose to dedicate the home game that benefitted the American Cancer Society. The players honored all of their loved ones who have been affected by cancer by wearing pink and purple. Fans were encouraged to wear pink or purple. The Lincoln-Sudbury players are in the process of building a Wall of Hope, which commemorates those whom died and all who are survivors of cancer. Wall of Hope cards were available at the game for a $1 donation and were added to the wall. All …
