TELL US: Do You Think Police Use Tasers Too Much?

Nashua, N.H. police recently used a Taser on a Newton, Mass. woman while arresting her at an Apple store in a New Hampshire shopping mall.

When thinking of police Taser incidents, it's difficult not to remember all the comic sketches that came out of the University of Florida "don't tase me bro" incident. But human rights organization Amnesty International believes Taser use is a serious issue -- and stricter limits should be put in place for police officers deploying the stun device. According to a February 2012 report by Amnesty International, at least 500 people have died in he U.S. since 2001 after being shocked with a Taser during an arrest or while in jail. The majority of those incidents were reported in California, Florida and Texas. On the other side of the issue, some argue the Tasers have saved lives and protected police officers. In a 2011 CNN Money article, Taser…

Yes. Police do need to use this tasers. They need more training on how to use them appropriately and repercussions when they do not. Taser wants to sell tasers. The dangers extend far beyond the deaths and the overdeployment of tasers at routine traffic stops, mall confrontations, etc … is completely under-reported and under-documented. One US citizen dies every week from a taser. The injuries …   more ›

Nashua, N.H. police are saying today that their use of a Taser in arresting a Newton woman was warranted under the "force continuum," which allows for incremental use of force during an arrest – from police officer presence up to and including deadly force. Newton, Mass., resident Xiaojie Li, 44, was arrested Tuesday at the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, after she allegedly trespassed at the mall's Apple Store, Nashua Police Capt. Bruce Hansen confirmed to Nashua Patch Wednesday. During the arrest, Nashua police used a Taser to try to subdue Xiaojie, who is charged with two misdemeanor criminal trespassing charges. A Newton woman reportedly faces charges after an altercation outside a shopping mall Apple store.

Updated 4:30 p.m. Nashua, NH, police say they had to use a Taser on a Newton, MA, woman yesterday while trying to arrest her at a mall, an incident that may have been the result of a language barrier. Newton, Mass. resident Xiaojie Li was arrested Tuesday at the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, NH, after she allegedly trespassed at the mall's Apple Store, New Hampshire's WMUR reported today. According to the WMUR report, Xiaojie claims she cannot not speak English and didn't understand why the Apple Store called the police.  Xiaojie told WMUR she was attempting to buy several iPhones for family in China. After reading this video is very angry! Think the future will tell all family and friends do not have the Apple phone .Why treat Chinese women of the language barrier so rude? and why the Apple store called the police? They can think of a way to find a translator to tell customers not to buy more (and I think can not buy more the stupid rules), there is no need to call the police, and called the …   more ›
