The Olympic gold medalist, who got her gymnastics start in Newton, will be inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in April 2013, Boston.com reported this afternoon. Raisman, a Needham native, attends Temple Beth Avodah in Newton Centre. The National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, which is located in Commack, N.Y., honors distinguished Jewish athletes as a way "to foster Jewish identity through athletics", according to the organization's website. As a member of the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Raisman will get a "locker" in the museum filled memorabilia, awards and photos, Boston.com reported. The ceremony will be held April 13, 2013. Celebration for Olympic medalist Aly Raisman will include a rally and a parade in her hometown of Needham.
Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman will be celebrated next Sunday, Aug. 26, after the Town of Needham today announced the date for a "Rally for Aly." The rally will begin with a parade starting at 2 p.m. at Town Hall that will head up Highland Avenue to Memorial park. There, a rally will be held, according to an email from Sandy Cincotta, in the Needham Town Manager's office. Raisman, who got her gymnastic start in Newton, arrived home in the U.S. this week as a local hero. She earned a bronze medal in the individual balance beam competition, a gold medal in the individual floor routine and a gold medal in the team all-around final. Another rally celebrating Raisman was held Thursday in Burlington, at the site of the Needham resident's gym.

Olympic gold and bronze medalist, Aly Raisman, of Needham, answered a few questions to a packed crowd of reporters today and signed autographs for a line of fans that snaked all the way around Brestyan's Gym in Burlington. Raisman, who got her gymnastics start in Newton, didn't give away plans for the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Instead, she said she's just going to focus on coming home for now. Raisman, a Needham native, is scheduled to be at a "welcome home" rally at Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, 13 Ray Ave., at about 11 a.m. tomorrow. Needham town officials are busy planning a homecoming celebration for local Olympic star Aly Raisman, but so far an exact date has not been set. “We are developing plans for an official celebratory event and are hoping to get a date worked out soon,” Sandy Cincotta, assistant to the town manager, said Tuesday.
