Q&A: New Director Shares Plans to "Renew" the Newton Free Library

Phil McNulty came on board in May as the new director of the Newton Free Library after Nancy Perlow retired from the post.

Phil McNulty may be coming from a smaller library, but his big ideas certainly fit his new position in Newton. McNulty, the former library director in Milton, was named director of the Newton Free Library in May following the retirement of Director Nancy Perlow.  Patch recently sat down with McNulty to hear more about his plans for Newton and how he's adjusting to his new position in the Garden City.    Patch: Tell us a little bit more about your background -- what did you do before coming to Newton? Trustees Name New Director for Newton Free Library

Phil McNulty will take the place of retired Director Nancy Perlow.

The Newton Library Trustees announced yesterday they have appointed Milton Library Director Phil McNulty as the new director at the Newton Free Library.  According to a press release issued by the Trustees, McNulty will take the helm as Newton's library director in early June.  "The Newton Free Library has incredible output and a wonderful service commitment. It is one of the great libraries in the Commonwealth," McNulty said in the press release. "I am really looking forward to learning all about how the library is organized and getting to know the staff, Friends and library users and supporters, and helping continue that tradition of excellence." McNulty will replace Director Nancy Perlow, who retired earlier this month after five years …
