[Updated April 17, 4 p.m.] Shoplifting incidents at Chestnut Hill Star Market Newton Police responded to the Chestnut Hill Star Market on April 4 for two separate shoplifting incidents. One incident involved a 46-year-old West Roxbury man who ordered seafood and then proceeded to leave the store without paying. He was given a no trespassing order and police are seeking criminal complaints against him for the theft of a florentine pinwheel and four lobsters. The second shoplifting incident involved a Newton woman. Laura M. Backman, 38, of 497 Centre St. #6, was arrested and charged with witness interference/obstruction of justice and larceny under $250, police said. Indecent exposure A Philmore Road resident filed a police report on March 22 after an incident with a neighbor that occurred on March 16. As a result, police requested a court hearing for indecent exposure for a 54-year-old Newton woman. Police reports did not include any additional information. "Suspicious person" at ANTS Newton Police responded to Andover Newton Theological School on March 26 for reports of a suspicious person who had been on the campus a few days earlier. Possible office break-in A woman working at Future Shapes on Winchester Street told Newton Police on March 22 that she believed someone had broken into her office. According to reports, the woman got into her office on the morning of March 22 and found cabinet doors and filing cabinet drawers open. She also found pry marks on the doors. Nothing appeared to be stolen from the office. Stolen tool, copper Newton Police responded to a home under construction on Dedham Street March 22 after an electrician reported someone had stolen several pieces of copper and tools from the work site. Button Heist Weston Police received a report on March 22 of a residential burglary on Lexington Street. Police say a man arrived home after running errands for about three hours and found the window on his front door broken and his home burglarized. If Only He'd Paid Attention to the Expiration Date on His Inspection Sticker A Newton man was arrested on license charges Feb. 20 after police pulled him over on Commonwealth Avenue for having an expired inspection sticker. According to reports, the Newton Police officer noticed the expired sticker and pulled the driver over near the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and College Road. After pulling the driver over, police dispatch informed the officer that the driver had a suspended license. Andre W. Phillips, 24, of 847 Washington St., was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, police said. Mysterious dents Newton Police responded to Central Street on Feb. 20 after a man reported damage to his vehicle's hood and roof. Figure This One Out: View Porn, Pay the Feds? In Sudbury, a North Road resident reported suspicious circumstances involving his laptop computer. The responding officer determined a virus from a porn site the resident was surfing infected the computer. Four arrested for breaking in to Auburn Street home Four Waltham residents were arrested Feb. 19 after they allegedly broke into an Auburn Street home that was under construction. Police responded to the scene and spoke with a witness who said s/he spotted two males exit the house, run through the back yard, hop a fence and flee down Charles Street, reports said. While searching the home, police found copper piping at the top of the stairs that appeared to be bent and broken off from the HVAC unit, reports said. There was debris on the floor from the copper piping insulation at the base of the HVAC unit. Don't Drink and Plow The Wayland Police Department received a call the night of Feb. 8 about an erratic snowplow operator in the area of Maple Street. Police responded to the scene and observed John Wright, 49, of Natick fail to stop for a red light and nearly back his plow into the officer. Police say that Wright was intoxicated and had an open bottle of vodka in the plow with him.
