The town’s drawn-out search for a new town manager most likely ended last night when the board agreed to offer the job to the current president of the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce.
The decision for Framingham’s next town manager hinged on one crucial point: who among the three candidates had extraordinary skills to best meet Framingham’s needs right now. Without any dissention, the Framingham Board of Selectmen agreed last night to offer the job to Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce President Robert Halpin. Former Longmeadow town manager Robin Crosbie and Naugatuck, CT, mayor Ronald San Angelo were the other two finalists for the position. Halpin has more than 25 years of experience in local government and served as town manager in Westford and North Andover. He also was in charge of the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council. Halpin came on board as the president of the Newton-Needham Chamber in May of 2011. …

A week after it was reported that he was up for the Framingham town manager position, Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce President Robert Halpin has his name in the running for a similar job in Burlington. According to reports on Burlington Patch, Halpin is one of three finalists for the Burlington town administrator position. A Concord resident, Halpin was appointed as Newton-Needham Chamber President in May of 2011. Last week, Framingham Patch reported that Halpin was one of four finalists for the Framingham town manager job. According to Halpin's resume submitted to the Burlington Board of Selectmen, he worked as town manager in Westford from 1985 to 1995 followed by a position as the town manager in North Andover from 1995 to 2000. …

Although he's been on the job for roughly 10 months, Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce President Robert Halpin could be moving on to a new position soon. Halpin is one of four finalists for the Framingham Town Manager position, Framingham Patch reported last night. A Concord resident, Halpin was appointed as Newton-Needham Chamber President in May of last year. According to a press release issued at that time, Halpin had served for 23 years as some form of local government manager and played an important role in developing the I-93 Tri-Town Interchange Project. The Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce announced this week it has selected Robert Halpin as its next president. According to a press release issued this week, Halpin served as the first President/CEO of the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council and has worked as a town manager in both Westford and North Andover. “I am excited to be joining a business community as rich and diverse as that represented by the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce.
