Don't Drive in Route 128's Breakdown Lane

MassDOT announced today that driving on the Route 128 breakdown lane has been discontinued as a fourth travel lane is open.

  Do you use the Route 128 breakdown lane on your way to work? Well, it's time to kick the habit. State Police are now looking out for drivers who use the breakdown lane on Route 128. In an effort to reduce the Route 128 bottlenecks between Route 24 and Route 9, the Mass Department of Transportation (MassDOT) added a fourth travel lane to I-93/95 along that stretch. With that addition, driving in the breakdown lane is now prohibited between Route 24 and Route 109.  Signs along the highways and State Police patrols will inform drivers of the change, according to a MassDOT announcement Wednesday. Pedestrian Killed on Route 128 in Newton Identified as Malden Resident

The teen worked at the Honey Dew Donuts in the Newton rest area.

Updated 10:30 p.m. Hopkins, who played basketball in the Malden Neighborhood Basketball League, was remembered by many on Twitter, including Malden Mayor Gary Christenson.  "Malden mourns the passing of Reishaun Hopkins who sadly lost his life today," Christenson wrote. "I knew him via MNBL [the Malden Neighborhood Basketball League] and remember his smooth 3 point shot." Posted earlier: The teen who was struck and killed on Route 128 in Newton this morning has been identified as Reishaun Michael Hopkins, 18, of Malden, according to a State Police press release.
