It’s starting to shape up into quite a race, as the field of potential Republican candidates for U.S. Senate continues to grow. This week, two more Republicans threw their hats in the proverbial ring in the race for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the appointment of John Kerry to Secretary of State: Norfolk’s Sean Bielat and Cohasset’s Gabriel Gomez. Candidates have just under two weeks to meet the Feb. 27 deadline to gather the 10,000 certified signatures needed to appear on the April 30 primary ballot. The special election is June 25. Joe Kennedy III will be a new U.S. Congressman from Massachusetts. At around 9:30 p.m., the Associated Press called the race for 32-year old Kennedy, who lives in Brookline, as he was beating by a 2-1 margin Norfolk Republican Sean Bielat in the race to represent the redrawn Fourth Congressional District. The race for the Massachusetts Fourth Congressional District seat will take another step forward tonight as the candidates take part in a debate at Wellesley College. Democrat Joe Kennedy III and Republican Sean Bielat will participate in the Massachusetts Fourth Congressional District debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters and Wellesley College. This is the third debate between the candidates, who seek to replace longtime Democratic Congressman Barney Frank.
