Solomon Schechter Day School to Develop New Athletic Complex in Newton

Two $1 million gifts will help build the athletic complexes.

Thanks to two generous gifts, the Solomon Schechter Day School is planning to build a brand new athletic complex at its Upper School on Wells Avenue in Newton. Schechter grandparents Barbara and Frank Resnek and Schechter friends Christina and Mike Gordon donated two $1 million gifts to the school that will help build the athletic complex, according to a press release issued by Solomon Schechter earlier this week. The new, "state-of-the-art" athletic complex will include a high school regulation-sized outdoor synthetic turf field, improved outdoor lighting and upgrades to the indoor athletic field facility, the press release said. Newton School Mourns Loss of Veteran Teacher

Peter Stark, 62, of Framingham, was killed yesterday after his car collided with a truck on Route 9.

A local Jewish day school is mourning the loss of one of its veteran faculty members after he died tragically in a car accident yesterday in Framingham.  Peter Stark, 62, of Framingham was a teacher at Solomon Schechter Day School (SSDS) from 1982 to 1991. He recently returned as a substitute teacher for sixth grade Judaic Studies, the school said in a statement this morning.  Stark was also a producer, actor and director, and was the stage director for the Sudbury Savoyards. He was also affiliated with the Concord Players.  The Solomon Schechter community will hold an informal gathering at the Upper School on Monday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. "to share fond memories of Peter’s humor, giving nature, and his amazing talents as a teacher."
